All candles are handpoured in our Virginia farm studio. We use 100% American-grown soy wax, premium fragrance oils, natural essential oils, and eco-friendly components.

PHILOSOPHY 

The Bathing Raven celebrates a true, DIY philosophy. From the initial scent inspiration, to the handwritten appreciation note to each customer, our team does it all. All candles are hand-poured. Label designs and scent blends are original, created in-house. We do not buy finished products from perfumers or designers. 

We believe this makes each candle a cohesive, artisan creation, instead of a curated combo of others' talents. We are proud to call each product our own.

MEET THE MAKERS

Husband and wife team, Doug and Jennifer Reynolds, are hands-on owners, and play a large role in everyday production and creation.

Jen started The Bathing Raven in 2014 with an often-heard small-business story: It all began with making gifts for friends, while working a full-time job she didn't love. "Candle-making is a great creative outlet, and I loved that I was making a useful, tangible product. People have such strong emotional reactions to our scents. It's amazing to watch."

With a background in sales, photography, management, and a Fine Arts degree from Loyola University in her native Maryland, Jen was excited to put her varied experiences to use in one position. "Running your own business is making a commitment to yourself, instead of an employer. It's so worth it." She now does graphic design, sales, and day-to-day business operations for the company.

With 20+ years experience as a retail buyer and merchandising director for a national, Manhattan-based company, Doug was thrilled to leave the grind of New York life behind. He came onboard full-time in 2016. Always a creative person, Doug has found a new, unusual talent as a skilled perfumer. Now our main scent developer, Doug also oversees candle production.

And then there's this guy. The real mastermind here, Ollie is our 14 year old Macaw, and the trusted office assistant. He can say "Hello! How are you?", so we're trying to teach him to answer phones. But that could take a while. In the meantime, he's a big fan of watching soccer and our foodie fragrances. He's NOT a fan of morning meetings.
